FOOTWEAR
Shoes must fit correctly, have soles that bend, and are light.
There are many types of running shoes, throwing shoes, jumping shoes.
About running shoes:
Different from basketball, tennis, and hiking sneakers. Three primary things to consider.
If it is your child’s first year go for a middle-distance running shoe. New Balance seems to be the most recommended followed by many other brands. Brands are Nike, New Balance, Adidas, Asics, Saucony, etc. and you should be able to purchase a pair for $25 to $100.
The fit and make of the shoe is the most important factor.
SPIKES (for sprinters)
1/8 inch spikes are permitted at our developmental meets.
WHAT'S YOUR FOOT TYPE?
Discover your foot type with a simple 'wet test.' Wet your foot, step onto a piece of brown paper, and trace your footprint. If the footprint shows the entire sole of your foot with little to no curve on the inside, you likely have low arches or flat feet, indicating a tendency towards overpronation (your feet roll inward). If the print displays only a portion of your forefoot and heel with a narrow connection between them, you have high arches, which usually means you underpronate or supinate (your feet roll outward). A neutral arch is indicated by a footprint with a distinct curve along the inside.
