Our Saddle Brook Jr. Track and Field program offers a range of benefits, including improved physical fitness, coordination, teamwork, confidence, and leadership skills.
Practices will be at Saddle Brook High School when it's available again. For now we're at Garfield High School
Our target start dates are the week of March 17 or 24th
Practice dates and times subject to change
Our program is open to children turning ages 7-14 by 12/31/2025. Children must be in 8th grade or under.
For participants under 8 years old, a parent or guardian is required to be on hand at practices. This ensures they can step in to assist their child upon the coach's request, particularly if the child tends to wander from the group or has difficulty with instructions.
Due to a limited number of volunteers and the large size of our track, we cannot provide consistent individual attention to participants who require it. Please consider this when deciding to register.
Absolutely! Unless your child is on a team event such as relays, participation levels are flexible and at the discretion of parents and children. For competitive children, we recommend attending as many practices as possible. However, for those seeking a fun and athletic experience without the pressure of competition, participation can be adjusted to fit your schedule. We also encourage involvement in other Saddle Brook spring sports, aiming for a balanced and enjoyable athletic experience.
Our ultimate goal is to ensure a fun season for everyone involved while helping the kids develop lifelong healthy habits.

Meets are held on Sundays in nearby towns, starting from April 13.
Generally, the 10 years and under group (10u) participates from 12pm to 2:45pm, and the 11 years and older group (11+) follows from 2:45pm until completion. It's advisable to arrive 30 minutes early to accommodate any last-minute schedule changes.
Please note that age classification is determined by the participant's age as of the end of 2025. For example, my son, who will be 12 until the end of September, is categorized as 13 for track events. Consequently, with a younger son also competing, we need to be present for both the early and later parts of the day.
Yes, it's mandatory for a responsible adult to accompany any child participating in the meets. While coaches and volunteers will assist, they cannot monitor every child individually. Parents are crucial for ensuring their child hears event announcements and proceeds to the correct locations on time.
Attending a track and field meet is a unique and bustling experience, with multiple events occurring simultaneously. My first experience a few years back was unlike any other sporting event I've been involved in, both as a participant and as a parent – truly eye-opening.
We strive to facilitate a smooth experience, but success hinges on a collaborative effort with parents. After participating in their chosen events, while we encourage athletes to stay and support their teammates, they are allowed to leave. Please just let a coach know you're leaving.
No, there's no obligation for children to participate in meets. Last year, several athletes enjoyed the practice sessions without attending the meets. It's all about what suits you and your family best."
